Brutou Dou – Deep Tunnel

Katja Lamberg and Sirpa Jokinen met at the Laponia workshop for improvised music. They felt liberated to be working with synthesizers after using mostly acoustic instruments. However, they see electricity also as a natural phenomenon. They also emphasize that the spiritual dimension of playing music is something that is not bound by the origin of the sounds. In this sense, for example the juxtaposition of acoustic and synthetic is unnecessary.

Lamberg and Jokinen come from different musical directions. Jokinen approaches music from a spatial point of view whereas Lamberg consdiers herself a more ”traditional” musician. This combination creates the unique balance of Brutou Dou’s sound.

Brutou Dou’s debut release ”Deep Tunnel” consists of four pieces. The extensive title track is a fantastic voyage inside a stalactite cave. The soundworld of ”Dreaming Alice” is inspired by Alice Coltrane and ”Prayerlined Cloud” is a description of a space where the ethereal elements of two worlds meet without intertwining. Finally, the epilogue-like ”Remembering U.” is the inevitable shadow in the painting.
